why has no company come out with a decent cold air intake for 03' A4??
am looking for a cold air intake system for and 03'A4. would like to find something similar to the cold air intakes made for the VW's jetta, GTI, example the EVO makes an awsome system.
i would like to have the kit hook up the the existing intake hose and feed down the lower grill where the filter would be mounted, or a upgraded intake hose that leeds to the same front grill...
does anyone know of such a kit?
thanks

Do you have a 1.8T or a 3.0? The "lower grill" is where your intercooler is located if you have a 1.8T. It would be a bad idea to have your intake there as well. The factory/stock intake setup from the upper grill is actually very well designed (unlike the strange/bad design of the VW MkIVs you mentioned).

I see two options
<a href="http://www.bmcairfilter.com/infoCDA.asp">BMC CDA</a>
<a href="http://www.itgairfilters.com/maxogen.asp">ITG Maxogen</a>
They are both untested on the B6, but are recommended by the B5 and MKIV owners.
In theory they are the best option. I will probably test the BMC CDA eventually, but I won't be of much help to the 1.8T owners here.

Re: I see two options
Just out of curiosity, why are you considering a cold air intake for your 3.0? It would only seem beneficial if you go with a supercharger down the road and need the additional air flow... (I have a 3.0 as well, hence the curiosity)

Because it's untested
I spent about a year testing a CAI on my Saab 2.0T. My initial results coincided with what the B5 1.8T owners were finding with the Evo. No gain and I was losing throttle response due to heat soak in the summer. I ran different tube lengths to compensate for throttle response, heat shields, filter locations, etc. After quite a bit of testing, I found that locating the filter by the fog light actually netted a gain. But, I had to remove the intake since the filter was susceptible to water. The next step was to mount an airbox in the engine compartment and route tubing down to the front bumper. But I never got around to it.
The 2.8 owners have reported gains with the Evo, but mostly I'm just curious myself.

I am suppose to have the BMC CDA prototyped on my car from a local dealer soon. I have been waiting
and waiting, and waiting....
It seemed to be the best option/upgrade for better flow w/o having all the engine compartment heat sucked up as well. I did not like any of the other offerings. I have the Neuspeed P-Flow on my 1.8t Beetle, which is nice (since it helps the TurboXS RBV sound louder) and has good air flow. But it has to be drawing a lot of hot air in there as well.
