55K service for $685??
I moved back to Boston from Los Angeles last year and I brought my 2006 A4 with me. I'm up for my 55K service and Ira Audi in Peabody quoted me $685 for the service. In reading other posts, this seems to be a bit high in cost. I asked about a loaner car and they said that since I'm a first time customer with them that I wouldn't be able to get one.
Does anyone know much about their service department and do you feel that $685 is a reasonable cost for this service? In Los Angeles, I knew an Audi Master Technician who opened up his own shop and did good work at a reasonable cost. Could anyone suggest any independent Audi repair shops that you trust?
I appreciate any advice that you can give. Being unfamiliar with the Audi dealerships and not knowing independent technicians in the Boston area, I hope to make the most qualitative and cost effective decisions.
Thanks,
Lad

Hello... I just had my 55k service done at my Audi dealer (in central Maine). I had them do the complete recommended service plus rotate the tires and a four wheel alignment. My total bill was $329.78. They charge $78/hr for the recommended maintenance items and $64.95/hr for the alignment. I know that my area may not be comparable to the Boston area, but $685 still seems high. Can you find out their rate per hour?
Also, I thought loaners or at least transportation was part of Audi's service. I remembered reading it in some literature, maybe the certified pre-owned literature. I always get a loaner when I bring my car in for service.

I was also quoted $600 or so and did it myself. Air filter and pollen filter are very easy. Spark plugs were a little tricky to remove without breaking the clip. Search here for step-by-step post on how to change the spark plugs. If you prefer to have someone do it, try Advanced Technologies in Glouster. I'm south of Boston so you can also ask the New England forum at quattroworld.com for other places north of Boston.

I agree, do it yourself. Changing air filter and cabin filter take no more than 15 minutes. If you don't want to deal with the oil change, just take it to the dealer or a capable audi tech. Changing the plugs was a bit tricky, you need the torx drivers, and also have to make sure that the clips are undone. Then I pulled all the coil packs at once. after that just check the gap and replace them. I think the air filter was 20 and the cabin/pollen filter was about the same. Plugs I ordered off of amazon, NGK bkr6eix i think they were (I have a chip).

We have a whole kit for only 164.11 that includes:
* Oil filter
* Air filter
* Cabin/Interior air filter
* Fuel Filter
* Drain plug with sealing washer
* Pentosin Synthetic oil (5 liters)
* OEM Bosch spark plugs (0242240627)
All of these are excellent DIY items and don't require any special tools. Heck for the price savings you could buy a tool set and do all this in your drive way or street parking for very little money. At least you can get the kit from us and take it to a independent shop as save significant money over the dealership. Click here for the service kit
