I surmise the radio would be programmed to function as if a Bose
package was attached. But this still doesn't give them the Bose set-up: speakers, wiring and amplifier.
And what about that auto-EQ that monitors cabin noise and compensates accordingly? Wouldn't this feature be in the Bose amplifier circuitry and not in the head unit?
Also because Bose supposedly states that each car is individually measured (acoustically) and adjusted at factory depending on the options (seating material, etc), they don't allow installing Bose as after-market.
I have Bose, but I don't like the sound quality of Bose. I just want a better sounding audio system above stock, but still OEM. If it were supplied by Harman Kardon, even if they charged double than Bose, I would chose it.

People with Bose systems would sometimes switch to the non bose programming...

I just found out that Sirius has Alex Bennett too - damn - maybe I will change
