I have noticed that when the heat is turned on and mode set to 'Auto'; the 2 main vents on the center console above the stereo/nav never have any air coming out of them. I rack up the heat all the way up and yet there is nothing from those vents. The ones on the sides and the windshield vent have air blowing. I have to explicity set the mode to use the center vents for air to come through them.
The thing that puzzles me is, if i turn the temp lower so that the a/c kicks in (not like i want to freeze more in RI) - the center vents are utilized in the auto mode and they have cold air blowing now.
Whats the deal with them being shut off for heat? Is this by design?

Just noticed the same thing yesterday, plenty of heat to feet and side vents, nada from center.

With a cold start and the temperature settings at say 22 degrees does not give out the 22 degrees output. So the central outlets are not activated until the engine is sufficiently heated up. Otherwise cold air will be blowing onto your face from the start.

Well, the other vents do have hot air blowing indicative of engine temp being sufficiently high.
I do know what you're saying though - the fan speed gradually climbs as the engine heats up. This thing I am talking about happens even after you have driven a 100 miles.

Noticed something similar. Sometimes I even get somewhat cold air blowing from all the vents. If I set it to 23C I feel the air cold, even with the engine warm and running for more than 15 minutes.

What I've also noticed is that if the temperature difference between the inside and the outside of the car is around 20 degrees C or more the windows get foggy no matter if you direct the airflow or just leave it on Auto. Never had this problem on the A3. I do not use Econ mode.

Any suggestions, anyone?

After 5 mins of running, warm air starts blowing from the centre vents for me(although i also used to suspect why its not as strong as the side vents). But its true, i also put a similar question to the forum and i got loads of answers pertaining to it in the similar fashion, slowly then i realised that its true

I guess i can answer to the question of inside of the glass getting foggy, its because the dehumidifier is not working properly. Its like if you recirculate the air inside the car, the glass starts to suddenly get foggy. I guess you need to get the air conditioner checked up.

About cold wind blowing from all outlets, i have not experienced it, i do experience warm air within 5 mins of cold start with outside temps at -6 degrees (so far)
