EVAP problem diagnostics
I removed the charcoal canister and detached the LDP. It feels like it is a couple of pounds, but I can't say it is heavy w/o being able to compare it to a new one. I can blow in the big inlet on the charcoal canister and air comes out the little hole next to the big hole. If I plug the little hole and blow through the big hole air comes out the outlet where the LDP hose connects (on top).
I'm assuming its the LDP, but would someone let me know if I should be testing this another way?
Also I'm question my part numbers. The car is a 2005.5 Avant 2.0T. The charcoal canister part number is 8E0 201 799. This part is about $283 at ECS. Another part number I have seen referenced here and on Audizine for the B7 charcoal canister is 8E0 201 801D. This part is about $178 at ECS. Any idea if the cheaper part is a revised part?
Also the part number on my LDP is 8E0 201 801 D. I can't seem to find these parts (checked ECS and Worldimpex). Could the more expensive charcoal canister include the LDP? If anyone has a good source for these parts (especially someone I could speak with) I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Bill
what makes you think is the canister?, how is the car running? hard start? fuel smell?.
also the canister is covered under the 8 years 80k miles emissions warranty, at least here in CA.
can you run a test on the purge valve and ldp?
reason I say this is because we have same issues with our cars but learn which station are the ones with the problem.
I disconnected the large inlet and went to the same station I couldn't fill up at and it filled just fine. From what I read that means the LDP or charcoal canister is bad. I'm just trying to narrow it down.
I have the pumping problem at every brand gas station. This issue seems very common.
the LDP does nothing while refueling, it pressurize the system for leak testing.
the canister as we all know collects and stores all the fuel fumes, once engine is running the purge valve cycles to pull them into the engine using engine vacuum.
