Finally signed on the dotted line...
I committed to a new A4 Avant yesterday. I'd been wavering a bit, even though my salesman ordered a car for me (with no deposit, no obligation) in August. A few issues kept me from finalizing the invoice plus $1,000 deal:
1. No Audi loyalty rebate
2. The appearance of a $195 "dock prep" fee
3. The "non-negotiable" $130 dealer documentation fee.
4. The Subaru Outback
After several shots at the Subaru, turbo and non-turbo, I decided it just wasn't for me. Very soft handling, cheap interior, wind noise from the windows, and marginal front leg room. So, I trekked down to my Audi dealer and test drove another A4 Avant. After a few minutes I turned around and told the salesman I would buy the ordered car IF he dropped the prep and documentation fees. He explained why these were legitimate dealer expensives...I explained how I understood, but still wouldn't buy the car unless the total purchase price was the $1,000 over invoice that I wanted. He agreed, I signed and left a deposit, and now should have the car in about 5 more weeks. If it gets here in time, I can also save the last lease payment on my A6 under their new lease promotion.
The car will be a 2006 A4 Avant, 2.0, with Tiptronic, Premium, Technology, Bose/Sirius, and Sunroof. Color will be Quartz gray with black interior. No sport package...my wife does most of the driving and I have my Vette for thrills. :-)
