probly the chip that goes in the key that allows u to start the car, without that chip the car wont start even if it is the correct key.

I received nothing like that when I purchased my 2006 A4 2.0TQMS new. I got two folding keys, a valet key and a plastic emergency key, nothing else.

Where exactly did you find this key...in a slot near the ignition switch column or in the dashboard or loose in the glove box? There are no references to it in the instructions...only the 4 keys: (2) Foldable Fob Keys, (1) Valet Key (can't open glovebox or trunk if they are secured), and (1) plastic emergency key (to gain entry into the vehicle) as stated earlier.
Having a plastic key with chip, but not cut would mean the car would start if anyone had a key "cut" to fit and turn the ignition switch ON. Might be a normal dealer item inadvertently left in the vehicle.
