GPS mount?
Hey, I have a GPS nav system (Whistler GPX-650), and my windshield mount just broke!
So I need a new one and I like the look of the mounts that fit in the slot between your radio and glove compartment. Like this:

Anyone have any suggestions? How does it work exactly? Do I have to remove my stereo to install it? Does it block the glove compartment?
Thanks guys!

I had a mount just like that on my old 4runner
and from what I recall I had to remove my stereo and attach it to one of the screws that held in my stereo. so yes you will need to remove the head unit to install that mount.

You like that one better?
I have a GPS mount that attaches to my windshield. It's from Ram-Mount. I very much prefer to have the GPS at eye-level so that I don't have to look up and down to check the map display. The mount down so low, to me, would be distracting as hell. This another reason I did not get the build in Nav in my car. You prefer it?

That's my car...
No screws like some one mentioned below, it sort of slides in along the side of the radio. Make sure you purchase both pieces the car mount and the nuvi mount. I didn't go with the vent mount because I thought it would blow hot air on to the Nuvi and I wasn't sure if that would damage it, plus it sort of takes away the functionality of that vent. Also if you sit in your car, the reach to nuvi is real easy (shouldn't be pressing buttons while driving any but lets be real). You'll sort of have to figure out which mounting technique will work for you. Its a good system though if you dont want to fork our 2-3K for the RNSE. Oh yeah, I didn't have to remove the radio. There is a very very thin rubber liner along side of the radio that will get slightly damaged, but its not serious if you put the car mount on and leave it there.

It's the Garmin Nuvi 660.
It's pricey, but I love it.
It's a great street navigator with a fantastically simply UI.
It also features:
Integrated Bluetooth
Integrated SD card slot for mp3s
Integrated FM Transmitter
Integrated Traffic Receiver
and a host of other features.
Proclips mounts are two peice assemblies.
The first piece is car specific and generally costs about $30.
The second is device specific, screws onto first piece and also runs about $30.
You have to buy both.
So, yes, it'll run about $60 all together, but it's perfectly stable, adjustable and I can rotate my Nuvi out of the mount without disconnecting cables and have it stowed in less than 3 seconds.
$60 is alot of cash for a couple of pieces of plastic but think of the last time you watched your $800 gps bounce off your dash when the suction cup came loose and you'll probably agree that it's money well spent.
I'd be willing to buy both of them (the Garmin and the mounts) all over again, for the same price I paid over 8 months ago, if that tells you anything.

Garmin Nuvi 660
