- Audi A4 B7 Why Aren't Adaptive Headlights Working<br>Guide to diagnose trouble and recommended solutions.
New observations on the 'adaptive headlight' error code I'm getting
After some research and thinking about the problem, I was thinking that it may have been because of my bouncy ride, from the blown front passenger shock - and it was really bouncy on the Eibach Sportlines. Well I switched out the front shocks this weekend for new Koni adjustables and set them perfectly and the ride is very smooth now, even over bumps. However I'm still getting the error light now more than ever.
Here's when I see that I'm getting the error light. It's always when I'm driving slowly through a parking lot, like just letting the automatic tranny car move itself and not really giving it gas. And if it doesn't throw the error during that time, it will ALWAYS throw the error just as I'm coming to a stop when I park, right before I put the gear into Park. Really annoying. When driving on the roads or freeways, no problems. It's always at low speeds and coming to a stop in those low speeds (never just coming to a stop light... yet).
I really didn't want to, but I guess I'll have to make the drive out to the dealership this week and have them check/fix/replace the assembly. Just a PITA to drive an hour each way, and even worse if I have to leave the car with them. I have one more idea that I'm going to try tomorrow that has to do with too much heat getting to the bi-xenon housing, so I'll see if some heat shields may do the trick with what I have in mind.
If you take the car to a parking lot, you should be able to put it in a big turn. Then as you accelerate and decelerate through 6mph (while maintaining a constant steering angle) you should be able to get the adaptive lights to engage/disengage.
I would try this to both the right and left. Maybe it would point to the problem.
Maybe you've nulled out all the body roll, and now the adaptive headlights are confused in turns...
When I first saw that Audi was going with "adaptive" headlights that actually steer with the car, my first thought was...
"Oh dear God.. That's going to be trouble."
I'm sorry for the problems that you guys are having. Hopefully, Audi will figure out the fix soon. These kind of things always seem to take Audi a few years to de-bug. After that, they're fine.
