Newbie with paint question
Hello everyone,
My wife just bought an 07 A4 Black on Black and I was wondering if it is ok to take the car to like Auto Bell for washing. Any issues with the jet black paint that we should know about? Will post pics later..
Thanks,

If it's some automated wash bay, major skip!!!
Frankly, if you got a black car, and want to keep the swirl marks off of it as long as possible, do the research and find a place that carefully washes cars. Of course we have no idea where Auto Bell is as AW covers more than just your city!!
Your typical car washes where they wash the car for you by hand, might not do it properly and you'll end up with swirl marks.
Actually you'll end up with swirl marks most likely anyways.

Hey guys,
Sorry I thought AutoBell was a national chain, it is a wash bay..so with that in mind should I just wash by hand then?

DON'T EVER USE PREP BRUSHES
When you take your car to places like that, they will prep scrub your car with long, soft-brissle brushes. Those brushes leave hair-live scratches all over your ride. Only wash by hand and never let the sponge touch the ground and never use it on anything else.

You bought a black car. So you:
1. Want it to look nice, but you're not nutty about it.
In that case, wash it yourself, or take it to a self-serve coin-op and spray only, or a touch-free wash that doesn't touch your wheels either.
2. You want it to look superb and have time to deal with it.
In the menu above, go to Forums, General Automotive, Detailing and hang out for a while to listen and learn how to take care of it properly.
With black it is either/or. You can't go back once you let car wash brushes touch it. If it sits outside or you don't care much, cool. If you want it to gleam all the time, you gotta take some steps.
Good luck. I love the black A4.

Soft Bristle Brush Horror Story
Brought home my 2007 "brilliant black" A4 Avant in April and the first thing I did was buy a brand new "clear coat safe soft bristle brush" from a national auto parts store. I was horrified and pissed as hell to see what it did to my beautiful new Avant. hova is 100% right on target and I will do my part to spread the word as long as people keep writing in to ask what NOT to do. NEVER NEVER EVER use these brushes. They are the #1 contributor to swirls and scratches.
