Default Oil changes

Ok, newbie here.. My current ride is a Black 05.5 2.0T MT6Q. Im used to doing things myself,so, I pose the question....Has anyone been able to change their own oil? Are there any tools available to do this? And last question, has there been any issues with substituting the 0w40 synthetic oil with Mobil 1 5w30 or 5w40 synthetic oil?

Default free oil changes are included with warranty at 5k, 15, 25, 35, 45k

don't you have to have them do it in order to not void your warranty? at least that's my understanding....

Yes, the oil changes are included in the price, but they want to charge if I come in early before the correct milage is up. I like to change every 3-4000 miles. Ive noticed the oil that the dealer uses is already dirty. It looks like it breaks down too quickly. I just had it changed 4k miles ago. The Mobil 1 synthetic I use to use in my truck lasted alot longer.

Default It must have the VW 502 certification, Mobil 1 5W30/5W40 doesn't

I did non-free oil changes at mid points (7000-8000km) on my B6 1.8 using Mobil 1 5W40 that was readily available from Walmart.

When the sludge scare came out, the only Mobil 1 to meet the 502 spec was 0W40, which is really hard to find (I buy it from the distributor by the case).

Default Re: Oil changes

The last time(and only time) i did it, i took off the sensor on the bottom of the oil pan first and drained from there, but there was still a lot of oil coming out of the filter casing(that part is just a twist off by hand). you MIGHT need to do both end(if so, you will need a 4mm hex bit to take off the sensor), i will find out for sure at the next oil change.

Of course, you will need a flat head screw driver to take off the bottom plastic covering as well.

I noticed the other day that Walmart carries the Castrol 0W40, which is what my dealer uses, only in bulk format, that has the 502 certification. But they do not have, nor does anyone, have a listing for the oil filter. I'm assuming that's a dealer item. I too am very fussy with oil changes, they must happen every, 5,000Km.

Default Mobil 1 0w-40 can be purchased online here.

Shipping is $7.50, iirc, for any number of cases. buy at least 3 or 4 cases and you can recover the shipping cost by not having to pay sales tax (unless you're located in TX).

clicky

You need to get the canister insert from the dealer and I would use M1 0w-40 as it is 503.01.

Default You need a 36mm socket (ebay) for the filter housing

...ideally you want the drain tube attachment for the housing, otherwise if you drop the filter cartrige housing it's gonna make a mess. But I don't think the drain tube is available.
