Default Question about tire condition when you return a leased A4

I have a 2-year, 20K mile lease on my B7. I was just wondering what AoA's policy is on tire condition when you turn the car in. My cousin who has a 2004 S4 seems to think that AoA requires minimum 50% tread life on lease returns.

I was hoping to make it to 20K miles on my OEM Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tires, but I know for sure that a set of 18" performance tires will not last much beyond 15-20K even if the car is driven by a little old lady. Now I am wondering if one set of tires will be enough to cover the 50% requirement. If I have to buy a new set of tires 3 months before I turn the car in, I'm buying the cheapest tire on the market (Hankook hopefully makes a 235/40R18 tire)!

I handed my last lease in with VW and my tires were basically slicks and they only charged me $200 which I was more than willing to pay as no 17" tire on the market would cost me $50 ea.

You need to have 3/32 or about 1/8" per the tread depth gauge. This is the legal minimum to pass motor vehicle inspection in many states. The inspection sheet requests tires all of the same brand.

Default Re: Check your lease agreement.

I don't lease, but I know that a lease is a contract. If the contract addresses tyre condition at the end of the lease, then you must do what it says or be prepared to pay a penalty. If the contract is silent regarding tyre condition, then the condition of the tyres at the end of the lease is inconsequential.

Default Depends on your inspector....

I traded mine in with a flat and they didn't meet the minimum tread life required at turn in per the lease agreement. But they didn't charge me a thing....

Agreed. You should have plenty of tread left after 20K miles depending on how you drive
