Default Rant - Our new A4 sucks in the snow!!

We live in northern NY and have driven Audis for about 15 years. I always set them up with two sets of wheels/tires. We have a "challenging" driveway(can you say steep with a hairpin) and know that Quattros are the best snow cars out there. We started a new business and leased an Avant for my wife and have resisted spending the money on wheels/tires for a car we don't own.
This women can drive and she has been reduced to a whining, scared, "can I borrow your Saab?", shell of herself. She can't get down the driveway!! While in for its first service, the guys at the dealer had several answers that ranged from "that's why I drive a Jeep" to "the regulations require us to run that setup".

My point: This is not an "S" car or RS for God's sake. Shouldn't we be able to get a base car from Audi that you can drive in the snow?

I'm finished. Thanks, C.

Default Do you at least have the all-season tires?

The Continental All-Seasons that came with the car weren't bad the first winter I had them - but they still had trouble stopping on snow/ice.
Real winter tires make all the difference.

Sounds like you're comparing apples-to-oranges: Audis with snow tires and the new Audi without.

Default You're kidding right? Your situation demands dedicated winter tires. You KNOW this.

Your new A4 doesn't "suck" in the snow.

Your tires suck in the snow.

Im guessing that jeep would have just as hard of a time if not worse if it only had summer tires on

Default Your missing my point....

I'm all over the snow tire thing but shouldn't there be a place for an Audi off the showroom floor that can at least roll down our driveway. We're not asking much here. I'm saying that if I don't ask for a high performance trim level or model, then I should get somewhat of a snow car when I buy/lease a Quattro....

Default Spec's?

If you're running an S-Line or Ti car with 18's and all season's, well, you're pretty much SOL. I've found the Pirelli A/S that come on some cars (in 16' or 17') to be pretty decent in the snow, although for you it sounds like you need a dedicated snow set

Default Honestly there are a boatload of SUVs that come with high performance tires now...

if you need snow tires, you pretty much have to buy an SUV with an off road package or buy them yourself.

Default Winter tires for winter conditions

All season tires are no good on an snowy/icy driveway. Quattro does not change the laws of physics.

Bet the SAAB has winter tires.
