When will DSG be available on A4 and other Audis?
I test drove an early A3 with DSG (no quattro). Seems like maybe a year ago, or a bit less than that.
DSG was awesome! I keep reading great reviews. Seems like this is a bet-the-company technology that Audi should make available in every model. There might also be economies of scale in making every car DSG, with no other tranny option.
Why would this hot technology be first offered on the cheapest car in the lineup? Shouldn't it be in the S4?
If it works with the A3 3.2q, why wouldn't it work on the A4 3.2q? Gimme!!
Put in an A6 Avant and I'll buy it the next day (I have 2 kids).

woah hold on there.... making dsg the only option would definitely not be a good thing
as far as dsg goes i much prefer smg .... not saying dsg is bad though... but for anyone who wants a stick dsg is not a replacement...
it'd be fine to say the 2 options are manual and dsg and do away with auto/tiptronic

DSG doesn't fit with the A4 layout
Especially with how the engine's positioned followed by the torsen, there's no room at all.
I'll refrain from driving anything that doesn't involve the use of a clutch, need to keep that left leg active while driving

I think SMG is horrible, except for the downshifts.
Those are nice.
Driving an SMG M3 just ain't that great.
Gimme a manual with a clutch!
Where have all the real drivers gone?

i didn't say i would prefer a dsg or smg to a stick...
i mean smg is better than dsg...
reasons being yes down shifting one of them...
one thing that pisses me off about dsg is that it still feels like an automatic... it idles forward (that really pisses me off)
with smg when you come to a stop the car is in neutral and you can sit at a light/stop without needing to be on the brakes...
turning off traction control, turning on sport mode and the highest shift program in the e46 m3 in a great drive... all things considered perhaps more fun than driving a stick even
right now i have a tiptronic and i'm craving a manual transmission with whatever car is next

B8 A4 and A5 will have DSG
So will the C7 A6 (due out in 2009 for 2010), D4 A8/A8L (due out 2009 for 2010) and A7 larger two-door or four-door coupe and convertible on the D4 platform (due out in 2009 for 2010 or 2010 for 2011) that the next A8/A8L will be on. The C6 RS 6 might or might not have DSG but the other C6 A6s (including the S6) won't, unfortunately.

3.2L V6 in the A3 is not the same as the 3.2L V6 in the A4
The V6 in the A3 is a transverse mounted engine based on the VR6 motor used in the GTI, Touareg and Phaeton. The 3.2L motor in the A4 is not related and is longitudinally mounted.
