Default Winter wheels?

I have a set of 18" RS4 reps collecting dust in my garage. Is it ok to use them in winter mounted on winter tires or should I just buy a set of 17" wheels and tire package? The cost of the 18" Dunlop M3 tires from the Tirerack will cost $736. While a 17" wheel and tire package will cost about $1240. I have a 2006 A4 S-line and I live in NJ.

Default Re: Winter wheels?

I think it's a lot easier to have a set of wheels and tires ready, and it's a lot easier on the tires themselves to be mounted once and stay mounted.

I run all-seasons year round and put on track wheels/tires for events, but same difference. If you've got a set of wheels available, why not use them?

Default You can get by.

I ran 18's with Snowsport 240s last winter and was fine. Beware of pot holes, because a higher sidewall is better in winter if your area has bad roads.
