2011 Avant Crossbar Torque Wrench
Hi all,
I have a head scratcher according to my dealer. We have managed to keep our crossbar torque wrench safely tucked in the glovebox since our beloved Avant was new (7 years now). Last week between a visit to the tire store and a service at the dealer the wrench disappeared from our glove box. My brother is buying the car this week so I headed over to the dealer today to pick up a new wrench. That turned out to be a fiasco because they spent 1.5 hours looking for what is supposed to fit and gave up.
Apparently all the options they have are female and ours is male. Attaching photos to see if someone can help. The Audi part number for the crossbars was: 8K9 071 151B
Photo from the bottom of the crossbar
I need something that fits this little jewel

scratch that, I assume that's what you already went through at the dealership.
I wonder if they changed the bolt way back between the B rev and the C rev, or if the bolt you have is not actually what it should be for that rails part number.

Yep they changed how they do the bolt with Revision C and have no clue how to get me the old style that is a male tool (there must be a joke somewhere in there about that).

Yeah, what's odd is there's 0 reference to the old tool, and usually stuff like that if it was an Audi part stays around in ETKA. Even when bringing up the B revision, the associated wrenches are all inside keyed, not outside keyed.
I wonder if a large enough tri-wing bit would fit three of the nine divots to make it turn. At least enough to get it out and replace the bolt with something else. Or take a torx or triple square and grind the interfering lobes off.
I'd probably contact AoA and ask them who the likely OEM would be for the B rev product back whenever you acquired it and see about contacting them directly, assuming AoA cannot dig up info on the actual tool. Because it doesn't seem like VAG likely has that tool as an available part any more, so you're probably going to have to go to the OEM anyway.

The service manager at the local dealer got involved yesterday to help and is now in contact with AoA to see what he can do for me.
He sent photos off to them and is keeping me in the loop. If there is no solution I will figure use one of your suggestions or some vice grips or some other "creative" way to get them out and replace with a new solution.
I will report back...
