2012 A4 engine noise

2012 A4 engine noise
I am currently looking at an 2012 A4 18,000 miles on it. I own a 2008 A4 that the engine sounds like an old diesel, I was told this is common for that model year car.
Do the later models have the same issue?

I think what may be perceived as a 'diesel' noise would bet the ticking of the injectors coupled, perhaps, with the timing chain.
I had a '12 GTI which has a very similar motor and while you will hear the above mentioned ticking, the only 'diesel' noise you may hear is when the secondary air pump kicks in during a cold starts. Don't know if A4's have those (I haven't picked up mine yet) - but I bet that's as bad as it would get.

My 08 engine noise is loud, which is one of the reasons I am getting rid of it.
