A4 2009 B8 Avant - Squeaking noise from left front wheel
Hi there
I am experiencing an annoying squeaking sound from my left front wheel suspension. Hope someone can point me in the right direction?
First a little background info:
- Audi A4 2009 B8 Avant
- 175.000 km
- Runs on 18" alloys with Michelin Pilot Sport
- Bought the car 6 months ago - came with 16" alloys and winter tires
- Squeaking noise first began when the winter tires where exchanged a month ago with the current summer tires.
- The car has been by two different shops. Both places they inspected the suspension and couldn't see any visual problems, the steering is solid and nothing is flexing. The bushings at the top are somewhat worn, but not critically (at least from the outside...)
The noise is most prominent whenever the car is taking off from standstill, when I drive slowly and turn sharply or when the car suddenly accelerates or brakes (so the weight shifts on or off the front).
I have tried to record the sound in this video clip
The sound starts at ca 8 seconds.
Hope someone has an idea what going on?
Cheers Morten

The groaning noise that occurs just after the car starts to move?
Mine does that when it's really cold going over speed bumps. Original front dampers at 170k miles, so I'm hoping it's just those and replacing them (and the upper control arms since I know the bushings, while intact, are torn) will clean up the occasional noise. I doubt it's the springs, but I'm also replacing the rubber the springs sit against at the top and bottom in case those are worn through.
You have 175k km; you should probably look to replace the dampers all around if they're still originals. The body control and grip in turns was much improved when I replaced my rear dampers at 165k miles.
