A4 w/ Sport Package
I am looking to find a 2011 A4 with Sport Package around the central/south NJ area for a test drive. So far w/o success.
1) How hard is the setup compared to eg a BMW 3 series (E90) with Sportpkg?
2) Have anyone changed out from 18" to 17" on the A4 w/ Sportpackage? any opinions on the ride?
In essence, i want a sporty setup and a comfy ride at the same time. I find the BMW 3 series X-drive setup close to ideal yet would want the Audi rather than the BMW.

I think the 18" Sport Package on the A4 is the sweet spot for you needs.
I really like my 19" wheels/tires & Sport Package and no complaints from the wifey either.

Maybe an S4 test drive will fill the bill. Or look into a used A4 to test.
I am very happy with my 18" sports package 2009 A4. I did a back to back test an A4 3.2 with sports vs the A4 Premium. The difference was astounding. That sold me.
The standard P+ has a wider 17" tire than the P. The Prestige has 18" wheels. You can order 18" wheels on any A4 now. The sports package is 3/4" lower than the regular. Looks sleeker, corners much better, but makes the SUV look even larger.
My A4 sports rides better than my 2006 Infiniti M35X.

Let's put it this way. Bimmers come with run-flats, so their ride is harsh even with standard suspension, and downright unforgiving with sport suspensions. Comoing from an X3 with standard suspension, I was hesitant to order my Avant with 18" Sports Package, but I coulnd't be happier with the handling and the ride. Audi go it very right, in my opinion.

I put on 17" wheels for my winter driving along with Continental Extreme DWS tires. Rides just fine. In fact the Conti's ride quieter than the stock Pirellis that are still on my 18". That said, I'm looking forward to putting my summer wheels back on.

I have the Sport Package with 18" and 19" rims and would describe the ride as firm, but not harsh. If aesthetics are important to you, I would advise against getting 17" wheels because they look undersized and awkward on the B8 A4.

Benzel Busch (Meadowlands Audi?) had 10 Sport Pkg cars a month or two ago. I cannot believe they've all been sold by now.
I just got my 18" Sport Pkg car 4 days ago. I was concerned about the ride quality on our horrific roads but this thing rides like a dream. Frankly, I hope it doesn't soften up any more as things bed in.
Prior to the arrival of my car, I've been riding around in my wife's Avant which is somewhat stiffer on its 17" wheels. The A4 Sport Pkg is smoother over rough surfaces, very compliant. They've really done a nice job spec-ing the suspension.
The only Sport suspension package that we've ever owned was a E46 BMW 3 series car, 18" wheels. That was somewhat firmer than the Audi and I really liked that setup. However, some passengers did not approve of the ride in that car
At this point, I would not be reluctant to recommend the Sport Pkg, even if your roads are in dreadful condition. Enjoy.
