Detector install w/power from overhead console
#31
Thank you sooo much for this!! I was going to do the fuse box method and it was too challenging for me and didnt want to touch my interior trimming. I followed your instructions for the overhead console with my v1 adapter kit, and it was a piece of cake. The only thing that was tough for me was to get the ground connection on. It works great!

Can you confirm that you did not have to do any soldering or splicing with the V1 installation kit? Thanks.

Well I could have confirmed this except just today I turned my car on and noticed that the v1 no longer turned on, homelink still works. I need to drop the console and see what problem was. In terms of splicing, I guess I did when I stuck a blue piece with a little metal on the homelink wire, but like I said now it isnt working, so I need to see why.

Well, the crimping of the Quik-tap probably would not qualify for "splicing".
Sometimes those Quik-taps don't bite deep enough...squeeze it a few more times with your pliers to ensure you have cut thru the insulation on the HomeLink hot wire.
Also, double check your ground. Not much else to go wrong.

I'm wondering if the rear parking radar is also contributing to the alerts.

Why I'll never bother
1) When a trooper is pacing you in your blind spot;
2) When your speed is being checked from an aircraft.
My detector experience -
Number of years driving: 40
Miles driven: Over half a million
Number of detectors used: 0
Money saved by not buying detectors: $1000+?
Number of times I've wished I had a detector: 0
Number of speeding citations: 0
Fines I could have saved by having a detector: $0
Bottom line for detectors: Waaaay negative.
That's not to say I never have a little fun on the road. I just know where/when it's safe to do so - and where/when it's not. Wisdom trumps detection.

Too much trouble, too much expense for a device that can't tell you

I respect your opinions and just as respectfully disagree.
