Been shopping for an A4 and you guys are scaring me. I was avoiding 2009-11, but though '12 was safe, and I certainly hadn't heard that the 3.0T's were also defective. Coming from a 2.7T (2001) I'm used to my oil leaking out the TOP of the engine!

Sorry, taxman, much as the Avants are pretty and practical, I'm looking for a sedan.

Per my experience, a 2012 is not safe. I'd ensure that there were no oil consumption issues before you think of buying one.

My 2013 A4 (purchased in June 2012) had major oil consumption problem. Battled with the dealer and Audi Canada. Failed oil consumption test but Audi was not going to repair under warranty. By now my vehicle had 115000km -problem was gradually getting worse. Filed a CAMVAP claim (Canadian Dealer Arbitration). Now Audi and dealer changed their minds. Car was in recently for piston replacement under "goodwill warranty". All seems good so far.

I spoke to them today, and found them to be very reluctant to say anything before the oil consumption test is done. They did mention that the early 2012 models were affected by this problem, however. I know the car will fail the test, so can anyone advise as to what may be the next step on Audi's part? Should I even bother, and just trade the thing in, skipping the aggravation & cost (around $200-300)? Thanks.
Hi skysis, we just bought a used 2012 Audi A4 (115k mileage) and just discovered it has this cursed problem. It burns a quart in 200 miles... that is not a typo... every 200 miles we now have to top it off.

We are about to call the local dealer. We bought it from a non-Audi dealer, so not sure about getting a free repair.

We were foolish to not do more homework on this; we hear of the problem for model years up to 2011, so we too thought it safe to get a 2012. Turns out, some cars were made with the old 2.0 engine in 2012.

Anyone have any advice?

Hi. I'm seriously considering leasing a new A4 soon. I've been on the fence because I see such mixed and thus confusing reviews and comments about their reliability and whether or not they have a need for excessive and costly repairs. So this post caught my attention for sure. Anyone know if this issue has been resolved on 2017 and 2018? Any other words of wisdom regarding reliability? Thanks in advance.

Default 2012 A4 EATS OIL!

My wife's 2012 A4 with 87k miles goes through quart of oil every 200-300 miles. What are our options here? Any advice would be great. Called a local dealer, no help. I considering calling class action lawyers.
