Looking to buy 2011 A4 - Concerned about Oil Consumption
Hi,
I'm new to this forum - first post!
I'm looking to buy a 2011 Audi A4 as my daily commute car. The car looks great and drives very nicely, but I am getting very concerned about reading about oil consumption problems with the A4. I have no problem with taking the car in for an oil change every 3000 or 5000 miles, but I don't want to be constantly checking my oil levels and topping it off every week or few weeks.
Is this concern warranted? Is there a consensus opinion on this problem? Has the issue been solved in the latest 2011 model?
Thanks very much!
Paul

I agree with the other poster who mentioned the break in period.
I have a 2011 with 2,600 miles and so far, the oil level is still on full. I was expecting some oil use during the first 5,000 miles, but would welcome not having to add anything during 5,000 mile oil changes.
In my case, so far so good.

My 2010 A4 is at 10k miles now and I've had to add about 1/2 qt between the 5k oil change and now... but I don't think the dealer added enough at 5k service because the indicator was only about 3/4 of the way up scale the next day when I checked it.
During the break-in period I tried to keep the revs under 4k and varied my speed/rpm on the interstate but otherwise drove it like normal.

I have just about 13500 miles on my 2010 A4 (bought end of March 2010) and I would say the "best practice" would be with the scheduled maintenance/oil change at 5,15,25,35,45 etc), to add a quart at maybe 12,22,32,42 etc or something like that. Adjust as necessary.

Between 5K and 15K I had to add a 1/2 quart at 14K (light came on). My mechanic did not like the color of my oil during 15K service. He suggested to do the oil change every 7500 miles or so
