'Smart Key' fob stuck in ignition
I have a 2009 A4. I do not have a key where you insert a literal key, mine you just push the fob in. My fob is currently stuck in my ignition. i have done absolutely everything imaginable to release the key. Ive put my car back into drive, driven around, parked and turned my car off- nothing. I'm not hitting the brake when I turn the car off. Ive put the car into the 'tiptronic' gears- nothing. I have no weight on the key.
I'm at an absolute loss with this key.
You would think that a car this expensive wouldn't have the key stuck all the time.

After pushing the key in, are you waiting the two seconds before trying to pull it out? Also, if there are a lot of other keys on the fob, it can hang it up.

(Also new and expensive cars sometimes need a repair.) In the mean time, you can remove the emergency key so you can lock the doors manually (see instructions in the owners manual).

I push the key back to turn on the electrical and then push it again to turn it back off. That usually gets it to release if somehow when I tried to pull it the first time it locked up. It happens a lot, since I'm having to use the dash slot since the keyless computer has f-ed up.
I don't wait long to pull the key after turning the car off. I push it to turn it off then flip my finger through the key ring and pull. But sometimes it hangs up or gets pulled at an angle. Seems no different than normal, but whatever. But turn things back on and back off to rerun the release sequence and it normally comes out at least on the second try.
But maybe yours has finally outright failed. Does VCDS or ODB11 scan show any codes related to that functional unit?
From the service manual:
Ignition Key Lock
Electronic ignition lock will mechanically lock when the key is inserted
so that the driver cannot pull it out. The key is unlocked
again as soon as the ignition is turned off. The unlock takes place
when there is current from the solenoid, which released the key.
The solenoid is inside the electronic ignition. It receives current
directly from the comfort system central control module.
Depending on the type of transmission installed in the vehicle,
there is another condition which releases the key:
With an automatic transmission, the selector lever must be in P.
With a manual transmission, the vehicle must be standing.
*** If, due to a technical fault, there is no current flowing to the solenoid
in the ignition key lock while the key is in the ignition lock,
the key will remain locked. *** In order to unlock the vehicle, a mechanical
emergency key with a key bit can be used. The emergency
key is locked in the ignition lock and can be used to
mechanically unlock the central locking via the mechanical lock
inside the driver door. The mechanical emergency key can be
used to open the vehicle via the mechanical lock inside the driver
door, if it is not possible to unlock the vehicle using the remote
control. It is also needed to deactivate the front passenger airbag.
Service Information
It is important that the comfort system central control module is
coded correctly under diagnosis address “05 - access/start authorization”
because there is a difference between a vehicle with
an automatic transmission and one with a manual transmission.
Check the coding in “Guided Fault Finding ” or “Guided Functions”
using the functionality test “05 - coding control module, (Repair
Group 96)”. Coding can only be performed using “Software Version
Management (SVM)”.
Sounds like a lot of unfun if something has actually gone south. But a scan is where I would start if just restarting and restopping is not releasing the fob.

Emergency Mechanical Key
Where can I find this “emergency mechanical key” and “key bit”. I’m having the same problem with my A4 and need to remove the key fob. The car is completely dead and had no electrical power at all. So I need the emergency key! 😞

The emergency key is locked in the ignition lock and can be used to mechanically unlock the central locking via the mechanical lock inside the driver door. What? If your fob is locked into the ignition lock, just press the button on the side and pull out the metal door key. If that's what you're asking.
There's a difference between the metal door lock key, which is the metal part of each key fob, and the emergency key, which is a plastic door lock key that has an RFID in it so you can mount it in the plastic housing stored in the glove box to use it in the ignition lock if you need to operate the engine with it.
