Wiper tapping

The other day it was raining so I put on my windshield wipers. They started making a tapping noise that I hadn’t heard before. That’s when I noticed that the left (driver’s side) wiper blade was hitting the molding on the A-pillar at the top of every stroke.

I have never noticed this happening before. Is this normal? Is there any way the blade can be adjusted to stop just before hitting the molding? The tapping was very annoying.

Not normal. You'll just have to take that side off the wiper shaft and adjust it a little towards the inner side of the shaft.

I haven't checked my Audi but there are usually splines on the shaft. If it has come loose, it might have skipped from the correct position.
