Default A4 20K Service Cost

I dropped my 2019 A4 for its 20K service today, which is really little more than an oil change, pollen filter change, hinge lube, and inspection. I asked the dealer to check that the sunroof drains were clear, too. It all seemed relatively simple, so I was shocked that they charged me $586. I also learned that the major services run $1,500 - $1,800. So I'm done with Audi dealerships. I'll go to an independent mechanic for everything except warranty service.

That is why many of the posters here recommend getting AudiCare when buying a new Audi. For the A4 the cost can usually be discounted to around $800

Yikes! That's pricey. I'm at that point too with our 2019 A5 Sportback. I guess I'll go elsewhere as well.

Does going elsewhere void a CPO rating, not that I have one anyways. Just wondering

If by "rating" you mean warranty, no, warranty coverage only requires you properly maintain the vehicle as specified. It can't require that it be done through a dealership. Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

Just keep records.

I got audicare but you can expect that mechanic costs are going to be higher. Surely you can go to an alternative mechanic but you won't get Audi specialists. You'll be getting a generalists. If you don't want to pay for the upkeep of the Audi why buy one? That is one of the things you take on when you purchase an luxury car.

Every major city that I have lived in has had a maintenance shop, that if not Audi, specialized in German cars. Certainly there will be some maintenance items that would be best to refer to an Audi dealership, but for routine maintenance, such as oil changes, brake service, spark plugs, etc., any competent repair facility should be able to handle it. And, just like Audi dealerships, there will be good & not so good repair shops. I had no faith in the Audi techs at a previous Audi dealership(not my current one). They consistently screwed up the simplest service. If still under warranty, document any maintenance done at independent shops or DIY work.

I don’t know your situation, but will you consider doing your own maintenance? I just did oil change, oil filter, and cabin filter on my S5. Total parts cost $76. A4 is much less since it doesn’t use the expensive 508 oil. Will take about an hour. You’ll need to buy a topside oil extractor for about $100, but then you have it forever. Bonding time with the car is a bonus.

I went into my purchase taking this same approach. I knew my services would cost more than the Acura's I've owned. I also bought the Audi Care which in my eyes is worth the cost.
So far my out of pocket cost have been new tires and a new set of wipers at 30K miles. Moving to Michelins has probably been one of the best moves I've made.

Well, guess you like to spend money with an luxurious A4. LOL
I would change the oil myself and pocket the difference for a real luxurious wine. LOL
