Default A4 windshield problems

Hey folks,

So, I am new to the Audi life 2017 A4. I recently had a crack in my windshield and had it replaced out-of-pocket as it was cheaper than my deductible. This was about a week ago. Two days ago the "audi pre sense malfunction" message popped up, so I took it into the Audi dealer today. They told me that a recalibration was needed. It does not have the technology package, so there's no lane assist, adaptive cruise, or any of that on the car. The dealer said that most likely the recalibration would not work with the aftermarket glass, so they want to put factory glass in it and recalibrate it for $1600. So I'd be screwed and have paid $2,000 just to get a windshield replaced. It sounds fishy to me. Has anyone had this same issue after replacing a windshield with aftermarket glass?

From my understanding, you DO need to use factory OEM glass on the windshield specifically for this reason. Even though you dont have those tech packages, you do have Pre-sense which is in the top of the rear view mirror. This would need to be calibrated.

I did some digging and found out that it is OEM glass that was placed into the car. Should this company have recalibrate the car as well, or is this something that you have to get the windshield for X amount then spend more to have it calibrated?

Again, AFAIK, only the dealership has the ability to calibrate the electronics. Windshield repair companies do not have the facility to do that calibration. You would have to go back to the dealership.

I had a windshield replacement, and it was a straight swap - they said I might have to do calibration, but luckily I didn't, as no faults came up and all the sensors worked. So I suppose it's luck of the draw. If its an OEM windshield and the fault comes up, the dealership will have to recalibrate.
