Wait till we will just unlock and start our cars with our smartphone and/or facial recognition. We'll just think this thread is so quaint. ;-)

... and is only mechanical, isn't it. So unlike the B8 "plastic" key it can't start the car.

On all the prior cars, like A4's, A6's, they too had keys built into the fob. Audi just gave you a spare, plastic 3rd valet. They also used to have a slot for the whole fob to fit into to start to car., or, an ignition switch for a key to fit into (ala older A4's, A3's, etc) They no longer have this, as 99% of the cars are now pushbutton, without needing the key to be anywhere but on your person/near you

When enabled in the MMI, the "key" in your fob will unlock the car. You will still need the fob to start it
