here's the strange part for me - no code or fault appeared on their scan. WTF?
That happens to my VW cars back in India. Some errors might pop up but take it to the service center and lo behold, the errors clear up by themselves and no logs found using vcds. But yes. Reading that that is a common problem amongst Audi cars isn't thrilling. I hope my car doesn't face any issues *touchwood*

BTW, do you think these are the reasons why there are so many 2017 A4s in the preowned market already? I don't mean only the start stop malfunction. There might be other issues too. Who knows.

i think people make strange buying decisions and then need to ditch their cars, for the most part. the A4 is in that popular/crowded price range where there are many options to choose from.

i looked around the forums up through october and found no real issues with the A4 being reported - then all of a sudden in november we're seeing some issues come to light (right after i signed my lease, lol).

for me, i only lease german cars with maintenance plans included/negotiated. i know the risk i'm taking and have other cars at home that are fairly bulletproof for mainstream duty. not that i think german cars are catastrophically bad, but they do seem to have more gremlins than other makes, which then require more frequent service visits.

I agree. I've had a few japs in my life and they were bulletproof. My Germans haven't given me much trouble either but I seem to be in that minority. But yes. I guess lease is the way to go. The peace of mind is totally worth it.

Yes, there are many strange reasons people ditch there cars. Truth be told, I had to have one of the first '09 A5 S-Lines the dealership had on the lot. It was Ibis White. After 3 months, I hated it in white and traded it for a black one. (Go figure. Now I have an Ibis White A4 and love it. Different colors work with different cars.) So, there was a 3-month old car on the lot because some idiot made an impulse by and got the wrong color. :-)

I am also leasing my German cars these days just in case.

I too have had multiple instances of the start/stop error (on my 2017 allroad) - ultimately culminating in a CEL. I use my code reader to clear it - until the next time.

i've just started turning the "feature" off as soon as i start the car. maybe if i'm at a really long stop light i'll push it back on to stop the engine. even then, the light will probably change right away and that will goof the car up.

i hate stop/start. it is so bad. hopefully trump will help end this environmentally sensitive naked man insanity.

Weird but I actually got this error today for the first time since I've had my car. I shut the car off and started it again and it worked fine after that. I actually hate this functionality anyway's so if it stops working I won't be disappointed.
