Data SIM
Hi everyone,
Sorry if this has already been asked and dealt with but I'm a new A4 owner and based in Ireland. So I noticed that the car has an embedded SIM and the audi connect features are pretty neat but I have a few questions....
(1) the embedded SIM does it have data on it? Looking through the mmi system menu it states that I can register and purchase data but how does everything update if I don't have data? Train times, weather , ect ECT..
(2) I purchased a data only SIM from Lyca mobile and inserted it, put all the apn details in and everything looked like it would work. The audi connect features seems to disappear and ideas only give a WiFi music option or something like that. When I connected my phone to my cars WiFi I got the indication on my phone that internet may not be available.
Has anyone any experience with this? I wanted to give the kids a WiFi hotspot in the car for there phones and tablets.

You have to log on with a tool like VAG-COM or OBD11 and enable the external sim feature. Then you can get connectivity.
You still have to have a subscription to Audi Connect for some of the features including google maps

When you say I still have to have a audi connect subscription how does that work? I bought the car second hand and the embedded sim is working away no problem, I currently don't have a subscription and everything seems to be working they way I would expect. News, Traffic, Train's ect.

1) You can only use the embedded one for Audi Connect services, if you wish to use data then you have to purchase it or use a separate card.
2) To enable wifi hotspot you either need to either purchase data to use with the embedded card or use a separate card.
If the car is more than three years old then you'll need to use a another sim card.
It's all in the manual...
