Default Gunk in the engine bay

I have some sap-like stuff in the engine bay. See pic. It's kind of greasy, but also kind of sticky and thick. Anyone know what's causing this?

Cosmoline. It is used to prevent corrosion on the boat ride over.

Should have been removed by the dealer.

I had this in my engine bay too. As marklar182 said I believe it's sprayed into the engine bay at the factory to prevent corrosion to exposed metal parts and electrical connections. I've seen it on other new cars I've bought also. It's easily cleaned up with any common exterior detailer you would use on your paint such as Turtle wax, Meguires or Mothers.

I also noticed that I have a sticker over one of my proper engine bay stickers. Anyone know anything about it. Why is it there?

May as well ask one more question while I'm at it I noticed that my coolant level is a bit below 'min', but the warning light hasn't come on yet. Is this a potential probleml? Should I top it up? Or wait for my next service?

Give your dealer a call, they may say just stop by and they will top it off.

The top PN is the software code, the bottom is the ecu PN.

So I would say the ecu was updated before installation in the vehicle.

Is your car a TDI?

Yea for sure! That's what I'll do. I've only had the car for a month. They should have done it before selling it to me, my ad blue is low too.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. Yep, I have the 190 hp 2.0 TDI. The sticker is kind of papery and ****ty. You'd think they'd use a better sticker for such important information!
