It also happened to me. Glad I was only across the street (a busy avenue luckily) when I came out of the store and noticed it. Also happened with my Q5. Never, ever happened on any other car I drove/owned/leased. I take good notice of the hatch when I get out and the real answer, as mentioned, is diligence and a hard key fob cover.

I don't really see how this would solve the problem. Do you think the leather is really stiff enough to stop the button from being pressed ? Just seems like this would add more bulk and potentially make it even easier. Seems like you need something like this with holes cut out around the buttons so there isn't leather pressing against them.

Well I see it having raised the sides a bit higher so more of the pressure is added on the sides than on the middle. Any pressure on the middle would seem to be more spread out because of the continuous surface area.

even though I may be a physician, I can be stupid too so I don't know hehe.

This has happened to me over the past two months with the B9 A4. I had always chalked it up to sitting on the key, but it seems to just happen more frequently than it should. Perhaps toy with adjusting the tailgate open delay?

I saw this today for the first time as well. Pretty certain it is the key fob. There isn't any lighting attached to the trunk is there? It's not like a battery drain situation?

There is a trunk light which turns on inside the trunk when it is open. It can drain the battery if left open long enough.
