Long Time Lurker here.
Here is a fix using VAG-COM
Module 46
Long Coding last byte is 0F; Change it to 00
Press "Do it" (or "save")
engine should now continue to run when driver door is opened.
0 = zero

btw, my last byte is byte 15 with 0F and I changed it to 00.

This is weird because my 2016 3.0 A6 3.0 does go into park and shuts off when i open the door.. i honestly thought something was wrong with the car and planned on taking it into the dealer.. i just push the auto stop button when i start the car as a work around.

Strange. I will have to ask my service department why mine doesn't shut off. There must have been some sort of software update that changed it. I'm not complaining though. The chances of me getting out while it is running and having someone jump in and drive away are extremely remote. I really only do that when I need to go back into my house sometimes to get something I forgot, before I drive away.

At different times, Audi has had this engine off when door is opened "feature" activated and others not. As far as I can tell, this is the genesis:
Model year (U.S)
2012 - engine not shut off
2013 - early deliveries engine shut off; mid-year engine not shut off
2014 - engine not shut off
2015 - engine not shut off
2016 - not clear; some have engine shut off, others don't

Update: the e brake still trigger upon door opening
