I've bought it twice now. I modified the housing it comes with so that if fits in the existing built-in US housing.
Then, when I get the new one, I just toss the new housing out and just replace the filter.

If there's a moldy smell you can take it into the dealership and they have some sort of TSB (technical service bulletin) regarding it. When I took it into the dealer, they changed my air filter although there's some sort of spray they're also supposed to use but my dealer didn't have it so they didn't spray it. They told me to monitor it and if the smell returns to come back to them.

I don't think TSB's would apply to cars out of warranty, though.

Thank you for the reply! just purchased it now. I have to check but as far as I know my audi didnt come with any housing, if that's possible. I also bought a airborne bacteria spray. Im planning to spray the whole cane in the intake, install the new filter and then blast max fan max heating for 10 minutes. Hopefully Ill get that new car smell.

OK, let me know if you have any issues or questions. I asume you changed the internal filter too? The one under the glove box?

If you hold down the fan button for 5-10 seconds after you turn the engine off, the blower will stay on for 15 minutes after you exit the vehicle, which will help prevent moisture condensation, that should help with the moldy smell.
However, I don't remember whether that is a standard feature or something you have to enable in VCDS.
Edit: My car has 4 zone climate control.
