I think a few of us are asking the same question. Is the rust on the braking surface?

Here are a couple pics. You can see the rears are much worse than the fronts.

You haven't answered if the car pulsates or shakes when braking...those rotors don't look bad at all...I think you inspection Tech was about to go on lunch or something.

No pulsating, vibration, butter, etc...

Also no brake pad wear sensors tripped.

I wouldn't spend a dime then and get a wire brush and sandpaper and clean them up and go for reinspesction.

X2

That's just some surface rust on the center. Small wire brush and a rattle can of black will make them look new. Don't worry about getting a little paint on the rotor surface. The brake pads will remove it during the first stop.

OR are they failing it because of the corrosion spots on the rotor face?

Those rotors are fine. Move on with your life. Don't spend another second on them.

If you drove more aggressively they would clean themselves. 8-)

BTW - I live in Rochester, NY, a few miles from a salt mine. We know how to rust out cars with salt.

I regular buy "rust free" Subaru's in Vermont. I didn't think you guys used salt at all!

Well, after taking the car to another Audi dealer.... big shock! The pads are totally fine and the rotors just need to be turned. A light machining should remove all of the pits off the rotor face. They showed me the car while it was on the lift and you can see the rust and pits on the rotor faces.

Audi South Burlington, VT was trying to upset me a $1600 brake job that I simply did not need. The pads still had 3/4 of life in the rear and 1/2 in the front. The service manager was shocked that they tried to sell me new pads.

Thanks for the help everyone!
