Mystery Button on Climate Control

Anyone know what the little round black button is in the middle of the climate control unit between the Off and AC switches? I have the prestige with cold weather package. Very nice sales lady had no clue.

It's not a button, I think it's an infrared temperature sensor.

Thats what Audi usa told me it was, temp. sensor.

OK thanks. Seems odd they would put a temp sensor that sticks out like a button. Guess I'd better stop pushing on it !
