Default Navigation Update HELP NEEDED

I have a 2013 Audi A6 Prestige (3.0T). I am currently running Software Version: HN+R_US_AU_P0609 and Navigation Database Version: 8R0060884BA NAR 5.7.3 . I have 2 major questions.

1. Is it possible to update my software to a newer version? I would like to run the 2016 version if possible. Can the hardware handle it? If so would a dealer do it free of charge or would they charge you to update the software? Would I be able to get the map in the driver information screen like in the 2016- A6s?

2. My dad has a 2016 Audi A7 Premium Plus, and that car as a part of Audi connect can get the 2017/2018 map update for free from the Audi Connect website. I downloaded the 2017/2018 map update from the website onto a 64gb SD card successfully. However when I put the SD card into the car and when to System Update in the "Setup MMI" menu I get the error message "medium is currently unavailable". Is this message because the hardware in my car cannot handle the new update information? Is this because Audi has a lock in a sense on the software where it only works with specific models/VINs? Can I get around this and update my 2013 A6 free of charge or is the only option to buy a 300$ 2015/2016 update disk from Audi?

To the best of my knowledge your MY can only be updated by the dealer.

The dealer can update you all the way to the current software which I think 2018/2019 just came out but they would most likely have to order the update. You would just need to purchase the activation code which I believe is a little over $200 and would definitely be charged labor since these updates are pretty time consuming. We usually charge charge 2 hours for the nav update and an additional hour for the current zug/mmi update which most need and will bring you from 609 to 942. Nav updates via myaudi accounts are only good for the VIN they are created for.

Thanks so much for your help! I'll have to check with my dealer. Out of curiosity do you know what features might make it worth the update besides just the map update? Would I get apple car play or anything else that would make it worth it?

no apple car play unfortunately. The update is usually to correct glitches and not really to introduce new features. See my post in the link for a list of what the update consists of.

Hello, I have the Same car as you and have looked into this and the prices mentioned are about what I have heard. While I do enjoy this car and realize its a Audi, That is a complete and total rip off to charge so much for just a software update. This is like before OB scanner's or Vag-comms were so available and if you wanted your car checked at the dealer they would charge you 100 dollars or something. Please save you money and use your Smartphone which has is better. If you want there are great threads on here to get you smartphone to be mirrored onto the MMI Screen. I have done that so I could use Waze for Navigation. It cost less that $80 in parts. I have used it exactly once since, Usually i look at it in the cup holder. Just my 2 cents.

I agree with you 100%. It is a total rip off and I don’t plan on doing anything software related any time soon. For now everything works fine so i plan on leaving to as is. Thanks for the advice
