The only way I could get 600 miles with with a tank of gas in my A6 would be to tow it with my wife's allroad.

I don't really pay attention to the miles remaining (unless I'm getting very low on fuel) as it changes dynamically as I drive. You could start off for the first few miles on the highway showing 450 miles and it drops disproportionately as you drive around town. The only thing that really counts is MPG over a tankful measured by dividing miles driven since the last fill by gallons purchased. I don't even really pay attention to the computer's MPG either because it's almost never accurate (too optimistic on my car about 1.6 mpg).

Over 6K miles I'm averaging about 22.5 actual mpg with 65/35 suburban/highway ratio. I use the Vehical iPhone app at every fill up.

The 2.0T FWD is great on gas. I've averaged 30.1 mpg over the past 1,637 miles.

Cars are full of tradeoffs - I happily accept 450 miles / tank for the joy of driving the 3.0 supercharged engine.

Today right at 1/4 of a tank my red light came on with the dash warning that I needed to fuel up. Dash estimator said I still had 25 Miles to go.

270.1 Miles on the tank
16.670 Gallons purchased

Still had what.. 3.13 gallons left??
Even with my 16.20mpg for this tank, that's stil more then what the car estimated.

I'm on a road trip right now from Orlando to Charlotte. Cruise mostly set to 75 mph. Quite warm today around 80F so A/C is on 72F. 514.8 miles on this tank. Filled up with 16.135 gallons. So that's 31.9 mpg. I have a 2.0T FWD CVT. The fuel gauge was still at 1/4 and miles remaining was 70 when I filled up. After filling up the miles remaining was 630 and has stayed there for the past 30 miles.
