Rebooting the car

Rebooting the car
I am thinking about disconnecting the battery on my 2012 A7. I am posting the same thread here since the cars are virtually identical. Just thinking about "rebooting" the car. I am having an issue which I have posted in another thread. Apparently I need a re flash for the comfort module since my car occasionally will not start and I get a gearbox malfunction which if definitely NOT the problem. Will I loose a lot of settings?/ Will it not start or be weird?? Thanks to all.

I don't think that would fix your issue. Two sides to the computer: True software, like MMI and everything in it might get reset with battery removal, but there has been stories of the MMI "anti theft" kicking in and thinking you stole the radio, etc... and locks down. And Firmware: Software and hardware begin to blur. Think BIOS in a computer. Low level stuff that is designed to be ultra durable. Which makes sense in a car where it houses engine controls, performance, safety, etc... This would not reset with battery.
You need to take your car into the dealer.

Thanks for your reply and apparently the car needs a Re flash and perhaps a new key which can be expensive.
Sounds like the dealer is the only place that can get it fix since they have the appropriate software. Here is the bulletin I found on line. Thanks for your input.
