Skid Plate Recommendation
Hi all,
This is a shameless plug for two things:
1) The idea that your car should have a skid plate
2) You should get it from Skid Plate Guy
I have a 2014 A6 TDI Prestige. It is an S-Line, so it it sits 1/2" lower than the regular A6. I am a fan of rally and have had skid plates on many cars, but this one was low enough I thought it a necessity.
last winter was pretty mild, so it didn't get used often, but it did save me from a volleyball sized piece of frozen mud that fell off a utility truck during our back to back windstorms. That frozen ball made the scratches just right of center in the pic. You can't tell it, but the skid plate is also dented about 3/8"
This winter has been a totally different story. We had frozen, snow covered roads for two weeks straight. I have a 47 mile commute each way, mostly in the snow belt South of Rochester and Buffalo. This skid plate has been hitting frozen slunder every couple miles. It's a great feeling to no longer wince when coming upon a frozen lump in the road!
The whole skid plate - the transmission plate tuckes into the back of the front / engine plate:
So anyways, the skid plate for our cars is 6mm aluminum. Installation is pretty straightforward (I made 3 small modifications). Protection is great and great piece of mind. There is a slight bit more engine noise (from the diesel anyways)
Chris is a great guy, well known in the rally community, and he will ship anywhere.

I should have it on the lift again this weekend. I'll get some pics of the current scratches after the past two weeks worth of weather.
P.S. - He can also get skid plates for all kinds of hard to get cars. he was one of the first to have them for the new Focus RS. I just installed one on my daughters Mini Cooper S (not driven in the winter). Same great quality and fit. The Mini Cooper has a full inch less ground clearance than my A6!
