Default Steering wheel scroll wheel sticking

The left scroll/select wheel on my 13' A6 has started sticking. It will activate the selection but but bounce back for a moment. Is there a known way to fix this? The right one is having no issues.

You could try some electrical contact cleaner that is plastic safe. That might do the trick.

"Behind the curtain" is pretty simple. The scroll wheel has a toothed end that breaks a beam. The rest of the circuit board has push buttons. You could try alcohol or Windex first.

I've had very good luck using Windex to clean electrical contacts over the years!

I always start with something mild. Contact cleaner removed the lettering on a switch I was cleaning on another car.

How did you remove the buttons?

Did this method permanently break them?

Thanks,

Carl

Very useful - thanks. I had the same problem and was able to clean out the interior this way. You can remove the buttons by using a plastic prying tool directly between the silver trip and the bottom of the scroll-wheel surround. Clips out easily - just be careful clipping out the scroll wheel to clean it - as the metal clip that it rests on to make the 'clicks' as you scroll is quite delicate.
