'02 4.2 GIAC Chips available?
I am interested in both GIAC ECU and TIP chips for my 2002 A6 4.2 model.
I am in the Chicago area and found Dubwerks as a shop that can do the work, but they were not sure if the 2002 model year was yet supported by GIAC.
They are currently checking into it, but I figured I would check here to see if anyone knows the facts.
Better still, I'd be interested in anyone's experience who has actually already installed these chips in their 2002.
One last thing. Does anyone here have experience with Dubwerks, or any other shop who has access to these chips in the Chicagoland area?
Thanks,
Paul

You can try this person, he is a rep for Giac
moss@torque-factory.com
His name is Jeff Moss, he is on the west coast but can help with all your questions.
If you wish to purchase spare ECU and a spare TCM he could have those chipped and mail out to you, so no delay. Drop him an email

I have the GIAC engine and tip chips in my 2002 4.2
Don't expect any real hp or torque increases, however, the throttle response and shift times are greatly improved and really make the chips a no brainer IMO.

I'm not looking for a major increase in HP....
But would like better interaction between the drive by wire throttle and transmission, than I am currently experiencing with the stock set up.
I have experienced occasional (maybe 5% of the time) situations that I can only describe as the two losing track of each other's needs. I'll try to hit the gas from a brief stop, or a slow roll, and the RPMs rev higher and higher, but the car's accelleration doesn't follow suit. It seems the tranny has to think about the request for awhile and then launches, late, and only after I let up a bit and hit it again.
I have heard from, and read about, several A6 TIP owners who have experienced the same thing. They use varying descriptions of the problem, but all seem to indicate that this is a normal Audi TIP phenomenon.
I'm hoping these chips will eliminate this issue completely. I want to be completely confident that when I say go, my A6's big 4.2L and the Quattro's 4 paws are both on the same page with me.

Those are the same issues that I had with the 4.2 prior to
installing the GIAC chps. I thought it was bad to the point of being a driving hazard in aggressive driving situations. The GIAC chips definitely address your concerns. You won't be disappointed.

"Driving Hazard"
is the same way I would describe it. After a couple close calls, I may think I have plenty of room to make a move, but now have doubts that my A6 will respond as expected.
Your comments are very encouraging and I will be pursuing these chips. Now if I can just find someone trustworthy to do the installation.
