Default 2003 6MT A6 Quattro wont shift into reverse! And clutch issues.

Just baught this car I absolutely love it! But just today i couldnt get it to shift into reverse.. i pushed down on the shifter, to the left then up and it just wont go in. It dosnt grind but does make a little clicking noise like its hitting something. All the other gears seem to have no issues. Could this be my linkage of selecter fork? Also, when I push the clutch in all the way it sticks and makes a rattling/clicking sound when you keep it forced to the floor. It dosnt have any issues getting stuck untill its about 85% of the way in. Im thinking slave/master cylinders? Please help I realy want to get this car working right, its such a fun car to drive.

If you can shift the car into reverse without the engine running, it is most likely due to air in the clutch hydraulic system.

Then it has nothing to do with the clutch or the clutch hydraulics. It is either internal to the transaxle or it is the external shift linkage.

Both clutch and transmission may need work. Personally, I would buy a new clutch assembly and a rebuilt or good used transmission and be done with it.

Default Update:

Now the car is shifting fine (i havnt done anything different). But the clutch is still making a rattling noise when pushed in all the way. And it still sticks.

Maybe the shifter linkage is the problem. You can check this out by pulling the console. Re clutch, I think the release/throw-out bearing might be bad or maybe broken spring on clutch disk rattling. You might get lucky on trans, but time for a new clutch assembly. You're going to have to drop the trans, so have a pro check it out. You don't want to go the expense and work of replacing the clutch without making sure the trans is OK.
