A6 4.2 timing belt replacement costs?
I'm a noob on this site, and recently purchased a 2000 A6 4.2. The dealer I purchased it from had incomplete service info from the previous owner, and since the car has over 100,000 miles on it I think I should definitely have the timing belt, water pump and associated rollers and tensioner replaced. I have done this in my other car, (86' porsche 951) without any problem, but after looking at what might be involved time wise with the 4.2 (removing the front end of the car) I might be better off having the dealer or authorized Audi shop do the service (my time right now is very limited). Does anyone have any estimates for the cost for this service? Any other info I should know about 4.2's with this kind of mileage?

Re: forget the stealer. $1000 for an Audi experienced indy to do it.
I called an area indy and they quoted between $800 and $900 to do the job (1 day turn around). I looked at some of the posts in the tech area on this site and it looks like you have to remove the front end to get at the belts. It also looks like there are a few specialized tools needed. Also, does anyone know where you can get a new instrument cluster besides at the dealer? My computer readout flakes out when the temp outside is hot.
