Oilstain, that's a great find. Just as the abs rings. What a steal, 55 bucks for an abs repair. My only concern would be, you get what you pay for. But if they're proper repairs with lifetime warranty, then why not try it out.

I once thought my ABS module was dead... turned out someone had pulled a fused to keep the system from stabbing the rear brakes. Which we all know is due to the rear abs rings being damaged. My car would brake very very hard.... so I looked into the rear abs sensors and they were loaded with rust. after cleaning them, the brake stabbing was tolerable... up until last week that it. I replaced the bad ring and now my car can brake perfectly again.

Seriously one of the greatest repairs I've done. Most happy with too.

Wow...great post! How are rings installed? Heat in oven to 200F and press on? Chill CV joint too...dry ice?

 

PS: Do you manufacture them or purchase them in bulk?

 

They're worth about $6.
For example, tone rings for Ford CV joints (FMC 7L8Z 2C182B) can be googled.

The problem is getting the right inner/outer diameter and tone frequency.

Kudos to you for taking the time to research available parts.

Nice post, that was one of the first sites I've been to in my search to find the correct rings. but that's not the correct ring for these cars. There were many sites that had those types of rings, I came across tons of them. But they're just not the right ones. I even searched under S4 in those sites and nothing came up with abs ring. Been there, done that kinda thing ya know. I've been at it for months and months. I'm happy to have found the cheaper solution to this world wide and serious problem, also to be able to provide the solution cheaper than a new CV as the solution. That's not a solution, but more like a unnecessary and gouging in money just for one small ring.

If you look back at my pictures, you'll see the difference. These rings that I will provide fit a very wide variety of Audi and VW cars. I'm almost certain that they'll fit vw also, being the passat is a B5 platform, I bet they use the same axle is what I'm saying. Seems the problem is mostly located on the S4 and some A6's.... Mostly due to the fact that the S4 is a sports car thus gets beat on fairly hard, and wheel bearings are more prone to blowing out than a regular mom and pop car.

I have a source where I purchase in bulk. I tapped mine on, didn't bother with heating. Not easy to handle when its bloody hot. Also anyone who does this repair, do not.. I repeat do not add heat to the cv to remove the old/bad ring. One it doesn't work, two you "could" ruin your boot and it causes the grease inside the cv to thin out and run out of the center axle bolt hole. Thus losing some if not a lot of grease. I will provide a set of small instructions on how to remove it and reinstall the new ring when purchased from me.

Fords are that cheap, these aren't.. sadly. At least from Germany they aren't. $125 a piece really is too much for a single part that small and so insignificant. I'll price them much lower than that.


Again, I really hope this helps the many ppl out there still scratching their heads at why the car reacts this way with the brakes and headlights.
