Default Is it at all possible to find used transmissions?

I have a 2001 a6 2.8.
The trasmission is completely shot due to a mountain driving incident.
I either have to scrap the car or try to find a used transmission replacement or something as I definately am not paying $4800 for a new one. Anyone have any ideas on:

1. How much I could sell it with no tranny?
2. If its worth it to try and find a used tranny?

Thanks for any advice.

They carry a nice selection of parts, but they're really expensive.

Re: 1. But how long will a used tranny last? You are going to pay now or later.

Default Try Force5 Auto in New Hampshire, Shoken is a bunch of thieves...

their pricing is outrageous. For my airbag controller, Shoken wanted almost as much as the new part from the dealer...somewhere around $450; Force5 shipped the controller for $160

Force5

Default I've had good luck with Shokan. Bought a hood, bumper and some other stuff for the old coupe there.

I was very happy with the price, and the had the parts in the color I needed.

I like Force5 too though, and do plenty of business with Chris.
