So this is pretty much the "darintake"?
Is cutting those holes on the bottom and or huge hole in the airbox and put a hose from the bottom grill and cutting off the side? Would that be better than the universal cone?

https://forums.audiworld.com/a4gen2/msgs/1087305.phtml</a

so you're saying just a regular K&N cone filter and attach it right after the MAF?

I made a true cold air intake for my 4.2 a while ago, using a cone filter and
some tubing from eBay. Didn't really do much performance-wise. I ended up taking it off, because I was afraid of hydro-locking my engine (the inlet was near the front bumper.) It did make the car sound more aggressive though, and it seemed to rev a little faster If you're really interested in an aftermarket filter setup, then LLTEK sells one that mounts inside the airbox. It's expensive (like $200,) so it might be worth the effort to make your own. If you end up going with something like that though, you will periodically have to clean the MAF sensor with Isopropyl alcohol (because oiled filters will leave a residue on the sensor.) Hope that helps..

People put cone filters inside the modified box-- like the S Flow set-up
The problem with having an external cone filter (i.e., outside the airbox) is that it sucks in more hot air. Cooler air is better for turbos. Putting the cone filter inside the box theoretically gives you the best of both worlds.
