Default Is an Audi Assured A6 2.7T ok or should I hold out for a 2001?

I'm really in need of a new car soon and I've found quite a few 2000 assured A6's around here that are in my pricerange. I know that the 2000's have more problems than the 2001 but it seems that I'd have to wait quite a while to be able to afford a 2001. I don't really plan on keeping the car much out of waranty as I'll have enough money for something brand new 2 years down the road. Also should I replace the TBB and f-pipe(I believe those are the big 2 problems with the 2.7T) right away or if its assured wait for them to fail and have them replace those for me? Thanks for the help guys.

Default Warranty is nice, but does not compensate for you car's down-time.

I own a 2000, so I am speaking against my own interests here. If the 2001 is really more reliable, then I would wait. I realize that the repairs may not cost you anything, but who wants to have a car in the shop, regardless of cost?

Don't forget the other problem areas with the 2.7t engine include the oil lines to the turbo's were changes with larger diameter one to decrease the chances of restricted flow due to coking (sp?). I am not sure when this change was implemented but it was some time in the 2001 MY production. Also the cam tensioner seals are prone to fail (leak) around the 30k-50k mark.

However all of these as well as the F pipe, TBB, and Bypass valves are covered under the factory warranty. In the case of the seals, F-pipe, TBB, and turbo lines these the failed items are replaced with the superceded (improved) parts. So theses problems are somewhat mitigated. As for the bypass valves you can get upgraded OEM valves for about $40 each. These would be the ones from a RS4 or 225TT. I can get the PN if you need.

No there may be some non-engine related issues associated with the 2000 that were fixed in 2001. But I am not aware of those. So I would appreciate any information on these items.

Whatever car you go with I would say it is imperative that you get the service history. I would not buy a 2.7t one without it.
