Default As they say, "It takes two to tango."

What we see are 2 dealership styles butting heads:
1) "We sell every car at a loss but make it up in volume"
2) "We sell at a fair price that allows us to provide the high level of service that you expect from a luxury brand such as Audi"

How many of you would have held out for a $1500 over invoice deal if noone had ever posted that "I just got my Audi for $1500 over!"? It is because of some dealers writing such deals that the "buying community" begins to expect a significant discount. Who wants to be the "village idiot" and pay 9% over invoice when their neighbor just got such a nice discount?

With such a huge difference in mentality at the dealerships, it is no wonder that buyers seem to feel that they can get a discount. And I can see how the salespersons at dealer #2 can get frustrated when dealing with shoppers whose neighbor bought from dealer #1. If Audi enjoys continued success then perhaps AOA can convince the owners/managers of dealer #1 that they should emulate dealer #2. The penny-pinching will continue as long as there are reports of dealers selling to penny-pinchers.

Default A "Big Spender" can drop $500 on dinner, but still be a tight-*** if he leaves a $10 tip...

It is not how much money you spend, it is how little money you fight over to NOT spend.

If every car is sold at a loss, and more are sold .. then that simply means the dealer loses more...

Default Guy bought an S4 at another dealer. Claimed he got a significant discount.

He stated lease terms that where meant to rile the dealer who did not end up selling the car. Funny enough, he lied sooo outrageously on the numbers that everyone knew he was lying. Who buys an S4 in L.A. for under invoice ? Silly fool even left his lease contract on the front seat of the car when he came in for some post sale parts to be installed. He paid more than we had offered to him, but he had burned his bridges and pride was at stake. Every time he walked by the sales office while waiting for his car, we proceeded to talk loudly among ourselves about this impossible deal a guy was trying to make on an S4 while pretending not to see him.

Cruel ? yes. but no more so than trying to mislead others about what a car can be had for.

Default If you get that screaming money loser deal, your Mother, Brother, Neighbour must make up for your

gain. Being fair is more than something between you and your dealer. It means they don't "need" to rip the head off of the next person to make up for your deal. They will try, but they don't NEED to do so.
