Auxillary Fan Fuse Location
1999 A6 Avant * AHA * build date 5/99
I believe that the 40-Amp fuse in my auxiliary cooling fan circuit may be blown. Can anyone please tell me the location of this monster fuse?
I recently replaced the serpentine belt and tensioner (bearing seized). At that time, when I placed the electric auxiliary fan into position I did not realized the blade was touching/dragging on housing; with fan lifted out it does spin freely. Using the A/C the other day I did see my oil and water temps creep up beyond their normal reading. I then knew my auxiliary fan was not working. After exhaustive forum search I could not find that location. Any help is really appreciated.

This is terrific! Now I know where to look... 8-Fold Relay Panel behind the storage - driver's side, behind the Micro Central Electric Panel. Not sure what the S42 represents but I am sure it will become clear to me when I dig in. Thanks for this diagram! Eric

Sometimes we get lucky! With auxiliary fan pulled out, I unplugged connection, powered up the fan to find it works fine. I placed the fan into position making sure all three points were engaged, tightened screw. The fan was no longer dragging. It powered up just fine again. Upon inspection of the 40, and 50-amp fuses I found both to be intact. I started the engine, put climate into AUTO mode, my electric fan is fine! I got lucky this time. That dragging motor did not spin but never popped a fuse either.
My two-cents worth...when positioning that auxiliary fan, be sure all three ears are engaged, and that the fan spins freely before closing the hood.
