B5 A4 and C5 A6 Speaker Swap..
Hey guys, i have a 98.5 standard B5 with normal stock speakers in it. I was wandering if the speakers from a 2002 A6 2.7T premium Bose audio setup would fit in my B5. Are the speakers the same size? Would any of them work?
tried search already and no luck there.
Any insight on this would be greatly appriciated..
THANKS

Speaker sizes and locations are different, and you would need the amp with the speakers...
You also might have to mess with the line-outs from the h/u to the amp. Not as simple as you would like it to be, unfortunately.

SHAUN Re: Speaker sizes and locations are different, and you would need the amp with the speakers...
i spoke with a tek at an audi dealer for a little bit. The information i have gathered so far is that i will probably need to re-solder the speakers to the wires. just the positive and negative wires (pretty simple). but one of the teks said that he was pretty sure that they were the same size... although i dont know if he was 100% sure. also... why would i need to switch the amps..? would i not be able to just keep the stock amps in place for both cars and only switch the speakers? i tried to ask about this problem at the dealership but they claimed that i could leave the amps the way they are...
also. is there any way of me damaging anything if a clean job is done? or is it pretty harmless//?
Thanks so much for your help..!

Here's what I remember...
The non-Bose 1998 A4 had 4" front door speakers that were driven directly by the head unit (no external amp) and 6.5" rear deck speakers that were driven by a little amp attached directly to the driver's side speaker.
A 2002 Bose A6 has 5.25" door speakers (f&r), 6.5" rear deck speakers, and a subwoofer, all powered by the Bose amp.
They also have different headunits (Concert vs. Symphony II) which is why it might require some custom wiring between the headunit and the amp.

with that being the case.. say i did some sort of custom fitting to hold the speakers in place in both cars.. I have an aftermarket alpine unit instead of the concert in my A4. If i do this, would u recomend switching the amps as well? would it even work if i didnt switch the amps..? also, would switching the amps require taking out the head units?
lastly... would it work if i just simply switch the speakers from the a6 to the a4 and solder the connectors to the speakers and nothing else.?

Honestly, I think it's a bad idea all around...
The systems are just too different to swap in pieces, imo. The reasons why just go on and on. Supposedly, Bose speakers require Bose amps (different ohm ratings than other equipment), so yes, you will need to swap the amp. That will leave the A6 with no amp because the A4 doesn't really have one. You'll only have front channel power from the Symphony II head unit (which you'll need to turn on with a VAG-COM by deactivating Bose) and the rear deck powered speakers from the A4. You won't have power for the other speakers in the A6 including the subwoofers.
Not to mention that Bose isn't all that great, imo. That's not saying that it's bad, but I wouldn't exert the effort you're suggesting to have it. You've already replaced the headunit in your A4, which was one of it's weak links. Throw in a decent 4 channel amp and some mid level speakers and it will probably sound better than the transplanted Bose would.
Good luck,

The DEAL
I realize all the potantial trouble involved in such a swap. The thing is that my speakers in my car are pretty much blown, and i am able to do the swap for 100% free. My friend is getting all new speakers and is willing to give them to me, so i really want to take advantage of this oppertunity..

I'll leave the electrical to the gurus, but here's some basic info (BWW)
Seems like a heck of a lot of work, for stuff not tuned for the A6.
